The hut at the since
The Dürrenstein hut has had an interesting and eventful history up to this day. Tristano Costantini built it opposite an old Austrian ruin in 1968, a ruin that can still be marvelled at today. Back in the construction phase, there was ample commotion after a WW1 bomb had been found and deactivated. The grand opening took place in the summer of 1970.
Ferdinand and Maria Mair then rented the hut in 1972. Ferdinand Mair was a famous skiing teacher and mountain guide. The two of them operated the hut for many years, had many satisfied customers and finally bought the refuge in 1987.

The beautiful Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park that is well worth seeing has been around since 1982. Many guests regularly enjoy the beautiful scenery both in summer and in winter; even the Pope has visited the Vallandro/Dürrenstein hut – that was in 1992.

Renovation and modernisation work accompanied an extension of the hut in 2002 meaning the guests could be offered even more from then on. The tenants, Margit and Philipp Schwarz have been renting it since the summer of 2008 at Easter 2012. The new tenants from spring 2012 isis Ferdick Elisabeth, 2020 Baur Evi.
